Dear Madam,
A few days ago we read, with incredulity and horror, that after the meeting that you had on 1st of September with the representives of the “galgueros” and with Mr. Antonio Romero, your council promised to impel institutionally the “sport” of hunting with greyhounds.
Apparently these samples of support would be specific in facilitating and “legalizing” the training of greyhounds with motorised vehicles. That is to say, it would mean that SEPRONA would not prevent (as they do upto this date) the torture of these animals when they are dragged by 4×4 vehicles and motorbikes until debilitation.
Associations, refuges, protectors and individuals, have been fighting for many years for the well-being of animals which in our community ,are considered little more than tools. And when it seems that we are advancing in the awareness and gaining respect for these animals, in the treatment that they deserve, your council, apparently, is trying to potentialize an activity that causes every year and after the season of hunting, thousands of victims.
When the prohibition of hunting with galgos is cried out from all the corners of Europe , when today more than ever, all the countries of the European Union are conscious and horrified with the treatment that we give the galgos in Spain, when the European associations, that make it possible for the galgos to flee from your country, grow without stopping, your council supposedly, is determined to support a cruel, brutal and mortal activity. Instead of, and given the supposed progressive ideology with which they say to agree, to support and to impel the work of those who fight very indefatigably by the weakest.
We are going use the force of the social networks in Internet (Facebook, Twitter, Tuenti, etc.) so that the world is attentive and knows the way the Junta de Andalucia plans to treat the greyhounds , now and in the future (until the next autonomic elections) .
In any case, , we still have hope that this supposed impulse to this activity is no more than an advertising campaign of the FAG and that common sense will prevail and that the sensitivity of the progressive party to which you belong to, impels to its council to end at once a “sport”, that is not a “sport” in any other country of the European Union except for yours.
Yours Kindly,

Rescued after 18months living wild!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLHSogONfco
Que has hecho a ella Sr.Galguero?
A beautiful Galga, lost, abandoned to her own luck. Thrown out like rubbish, - vermin.
You dont have to look far to find a lost soul, eskeletical, poor, hungry, thirsty, hurt, and sad. You dont need a big heart to know this is something extremely sad!
This galga was rescued after 18 months trying to gain her trust and come home. with a place of sanctuary prepared and later her adoption. Her.. her fear too much to bare, couldnt be caught.
What have you done sr.Galguer? that she suffers so - that she feels she is worth nothing????!!!!
Now - rescued, clean but wounded, with pùps, she looks to her new future. Thanks to a team who never forgot her.
please check out the link above to see the video.
Her paw was caught in a trap (which I may add is illegal) and stayed caught for sometime. The damage now done.

¿Seprona antes castiga ahora no?

Celebrating the Galgos in France - 1st Fete des Galgos
Heres what our dear friend Beryl shares with her 1st Fetes de Galgos France. So honoured to work with Beryl, she is a great angel for the Spanish galgos and Podencos.

Sunday, 12th September was the date organised for our first Fun Dog Show, Fete des Galgos, Craft Fair, display of classic cars and motorcycles and Have a Go Archery. There should also have been a display of dog agility, but the French club decided not come! Their loss, as everyone had a fantastic day and there have been many demands to repeat the event next year. So, 11th September 2011 is the date and the event will be even bigger. I won't say better, because everyone keeps saying what a marvellous day it was.
Our wonderful very experienced dog show Judge, Stephen Moon, tells me his friend Graham, who has offered to judge the show next year, will also be judging at Crufts show in England next year! Can't get better than that. Stephen said he thoroughly enjoyed his day, said what a lovely attitude the participants had. The show was meant to be fun, and that is exactly what it was.
So, folks, here's a picture gallery to share with you. And remember that, on the same day, brave Lisa jumped out of an aeroplane at 5,000 feet over Seville, Spain, to celebrate our day too. If you haven't donated to her marvellous achievement, please email a Paypal donation to comdelrio@hotmail.com for the association 112 Carlota Galgos.
JMB animal feed supplies who very kindly gave a 4kg bag of dog croquettes to the 1st and 2nd placed dog in each class
President of L'Europe des Levriers, Beatrice Monnet, Secretary Pierrette, and Benedicte, husband, family and half a dozen galgos all supported the event as did Freddy and Gigi with Pepere. I did pop out with my own galgas Sahara and Carmela but, unfortunately, such were the demands on my time and attention that I had to hand them over into the safe hands of Tim of Scootbooks.com, publishers of my book.
I need to mention also David Best and Doreen Jeapes, who did a marvellous job as Entries Secretaries, Dorothy, Trevor and Sue who were the stalwart coffee and tea makers for the dog show, (Dorothy made the beautiful cake for Guess the Weight), Joint Aid, natural product for arthritic dogs and horses, and Saint Pardoux Pension pour Chiens who sponsored the rosettes this year.
Last but not least, I must give a special mention and BIG THANK YOU to Pete Dobson, who manned the gate and collected 1 euro for every car which came and parked. Originally we had organised a team of 4, but one had to return to England on the last minute for a friend's funeral, one had a bad back, and my David was pulled every which way with a tent blowing away and electricity power cuts! Pete was out on the gate for 5 or 6 hours, an absolute Star!
I had a marvellous team of helpers who all enjoyed the day and are keen to get involved in the organisation for next year!
Good Luck to GRIN for their Fiesta des Galgos on 19th September!
