PRO-GALGO will go for the 28 galgos in Jerez killingstation named GESSER but we
need the money to pay the trip and the first vet care
we have found already 13 foster families or refuges in Spain (as they are not
ready to travel yet abroad) to help with the galgos but still 15 need to be
taken in until ready for adoption.
we can go to pick them up in jerez next week but we need about 800 euros for the
transport and another 900 euro for the tests and vaccines (34 eur test per dogs,
8 euro for the 7x vaccines)
and of course we need help for the general vet care later on, but first we need
the money to transport, test and vaccinate them so they are not a danger for the
refuges and fosters who take them in.

THE MOST ADORABLE NOTELETS ON SALE WWW.GALGONEWS.COM THEY ARE A MUST.. AND ON TOP JUST A LITTLE GOES A LONG WAY IN A RESCUERS PLIGHT TO FUND A GALGO.. SO COME ON.... WE ALL SEND CARDS, HELP THE GALGOS AND SEND THE MOST STUNNING CARDS.
A Broken Heart.... a podenco in adoption, and a heart filled thankyou to Galgo lover across the sea.
A Broken heart, or more.
Several months ago I received a call from Marie regards a Galga abandoned. Marie had been feeding her having chased her down the motorway to what appeared to be a safe haven which Dona took residence of for the following months.
she roamed free and came to the call and ate daily. What more can any abandoned galga want?
Love, protection and honour.
It was here I met Dona. Any galga/galgo can steal my heart but this one, well we already had her a foster home set up and the finances prepared for her care. Vera was waiting for her new baby girl!
Taking over an hour to get to her, 2 hours with her throwing hotdogs to win her trust, and over an hours journey back, I began my prayers that she would understand my hands of safety. She came close as I sat on the floor, but just not close enough to beable to grab the rope dangling from her neck and galgueros collar, which showed to me she had already escaped hunting hands. She looked no more than one year old.
Marie continued to go and feed her but it seemed that everyone else wanted to feed her also. The danger unaware to people who dont understand the dangers Galgos face by being loose. Some, easily caught, some taking months, years, and some whose hunger can win them more than food into solitary life. Thing is, the more Dona ate, the less hungry she was to want to come to the hand.
The more people knew about her, the more the threats for her safety began, whats one galgueros trash is anothers possibility and the fear burning inside me for her safety from hunting prey was hard to bare. the dispondant feeling when she just stopped coming close made me think someone else was after her and in a way which created her to be fearful from myself who she had sat with and Marie who laid food. Its here i began to think someone had been close.
Continuing to lay food.. she still came to eat, but not close. I talked to a good friend about darting but her open space was just too dangerous, an attempt with tablets made, and still no joy. word spreads easily when a loose galgo is prey and it wasnt long.
DDEVIDA came one Sunday and we hung out all day until 11pm, prostitutes filled the area, and we laid the trap in vain for the chestnut galga. Vera her foster Mama came and still no go. Laying a trap she excavated she lay, she did everything but enter. Not hungry enough to enter knowing food was round the corner she was quite composed.
whenever I see a galgo lick the road my heart melts.. Its just something to me which is despair. We sat and waited but no go.
Her street colleague however now named Oco, the podenco fell straight into the trap at the smell of food. He now in foster care and looking for a forever home. castrated vaccinated, negative in leishmania he awaits that love forever! comdelrio@hotmail.com NO HUNTERS!
Continuing the journey to go to her, and Maries daily visits news had got across the shores to gestures of her care to Vera.. (which now fund another galga) and also a trap provided by a small group of galgo friends in a way in which they could participate in her rescue. (To whom I will be eternally greatful, and those galgos to follow who will be rescued by it,) - Who knows I had even wondered maybe an adoption across the water may be her future. Even Canada news had gotten to.
she fell quiet.. 3 weeks passed and no sighting. Lisa and I sat and sat and sat, watching the action of prostitutes and their daily business not far from where Dona would be, the following attempt Dioni Lisa and I sat, .. but seeing empty meat packages I knew she was being fed by more than the kindness of Marie. I wondered if she was harbouring Pups and hence her silence. Willing her to have had pups if it meant her safety, I knew the massive possibility and one I had mentioned to Marie for her keeping her distance suddenly and then disappearing, I knew someone else was after her. She was not coming close.. to those who understand galgos fears, having been close, its a sign someone has spooked her. Stupid they are not.
One day Dioni Lisa and I went again, searching combing the area for sightings of precious babies and a fabulous Mama... no sign. Since Dona was on a "Coto de caza" I had always been concerned matter of time if she fell prey to hunting hands.
On surprise to find the guard was on our side he had informed us that 4 traps had been laid across the other side of the river.. by hunters. He informed me that he knew one was despreately trying to catch her, and it appears he did. No sighting has been made since.
Keeping contact with the guard I assured him I would do whatever it takes to find her, and against all correctness id buy her if necessary.. she all waiting for her. I knew as vera took in another needy girl, Dona would come mine, at least until assessed, cured and ready for adoption. I assured him whatever it took and he said he would agreeably help... to this day she has not been seen.
I think about her daily, Her fate her own fear from the hands of a hunter to be enabled to fall prey once again to that same"destiny" for a Spanish galgo.
Its a dark world being a Spanish galgo, only few people understand the danger they face, the hurry to catch them, but just sometimes they have to help themselves to be helped. I still keep contact with the guard to no avail.. today a galgo is here tomorrow across Spain.
I pray for you Galguita, you will always have my heart, if you break free once again, Im waiting.
Charl and Amboambassadog.
Ive taken my time to add this to my site.. for the simple reason is, she needed no more publicity that she was loose. Thinking always of her safety.
MY DEEPEST THANKS TO ALL THOSE WHO TOOK DONA TO HEART, - MARIE, VERA, FRIENDS OF THE GALGOS FROM AMERICA, CANADA, FRANCE, DDEVIA, LISA, DIONI, ANTONIO FOR HIS EVER AGREEANCE TO HELP FROM JAEN, - AND OCO FOR HAVING BEEN RESCUED. HIS FOSTER HOME, AND PRAYER. MAY YOU BE SAFE LIL GIRL, NOW AND ALWAYS.
I AM TRULY SORRY.
A BROKEN HEART!

A Story which still brings tears to my eyes...
How I love to see a galgo and his teddy!!!! Just Gorgeous!!!!! An ABSOLUTE AMAZING Rescue and groups in action to save Greyhounds.
Fernie the Rescued Guam Greyhound
Introduction:
Fernie was one of 153 plus Greyhounds who were rescued when the track on the island of Guam was closed suddenly in Nov.2008, and the Greyhounds were “ given away” to anyone on the island who wanted them. Weeks later Greyhound advocates in the U.S. heard about the neglect by these people who took them and stories began emerging of Greys being tied to cars and boats, starving and abandoned also in the jungle. A huge rescue ensued and included a phenomenal group in Southern California called Homestretch Greyhounds who received the dogs from Guam, housed, vetted as needed, and then moved them on to other groups all across the USA and Canada into forever homes. Most of the dogs were moved off the island in 2009 with a few still trickling in even this last month of May 2010. Our thanks goes out to Susan Netboy of Greyhound Protection League who financed most of this amazing rescue and to all the groups who took in multiple greys over the last year.
Red Fern Flyer aka Fernie, was one of these fortunately hounds.
He came from Guam very neglected, skin and bones enduring an injury that resulted in us finding out during a routine dental, that a canine tooth had been lodged in his nasal cavity from a blunt trauma, probably for months! Thankfully his surgery went well and he recoverd. He remained in foster care first four months in one home, and as needed he moved into another home for another four months for foster care. His big chance came when he was taken to the Solvang Greyhound Gathering in Solvang California and Telma Shaw introduced him to a couple that Fern ran up to. They were not looking to adopt another greyhound, having one already named Sammy, and they had just lost their little peke William, but when they heard the story and all that Fern had gone through, and that he would yet again have to be moved into another foster home, the Gehr’s made the best decision ever.
In the words of his Mami and Papi.
Hi Everyone! Thought we'd send y'all a short (well, kinda short) update on Fernie, who's doing very well in his forever home. It didn't take long for him to establish a routine, eat, sleep, go for a walk, play with stuffie, eat some more, sleep some more... you get the picture, and he loves to go places. When we head for the truck, he stands at the back and waits for the tailgate to come down, then like a gazelle he hops up in the back, heads for the front and sticks his head through so he can see where we're going - very cute! Nothing like a greyhound dripping down the back of your neck while you're trying to drive.
Every morning promptly at 8:00 AM - he's standing at the sliding door wit his stuffie in his mouth waiting to be let out in the yard. He frisks around for a while, then it's back to the door, "Is it time for breakfast yet?" He's even got laid back ol' Sammy chasin' him around a bit. By the way, Sammy's foot is finally starting to get back to normal. He's hopped around, keeping the right front off the ground for a month after he lost the toenail and it got infected. Good to see him back to walking and running normally. Having Fernie around is good incentive, he's such a playful boy. Fern's latest new game is to play fetch with his stuffie, then bring it back and give us a big fake growl when the tug-o-war starts, as if to say, "I'm the fiercest one ya know!" When he's done playing, he likes to lean on us - his way of saying thanks for a good game.
We've kept him on Holistic Health Chicken with lamb wet food and an Omega-3 capsule mixed in every meal. His coat is getting nice and shiny, and the dandruff is down to a bare minimum. We think the brush routine for he and Sammy is helping a lot too. First, they get back-combed with a rubber tipped hair brush, then a thorough going over with the Furminator, and then a final rub down using only our hands. They both love the treatment and will stand there motionless for the 10-15 minutes it takes to finish. Guess we would too if we had someone to pamper us every day like that! Fernie had his first bath since coming home with us too. We waited for a warm day, then took him out on the lawn and did the deed. He stood with stoicism until we were done with the final toweling, then took off like a shot and harpooned head first into the grass, rolling around like a horse taking a big ol' dust bath - hysterical.
We could go on, but this is supposed to be short, remember? Anyway, we love our boy, and we think Sammy is rather fond of him too. We're blessed to have Fernie as our newest family member. Can't thank all of you enough for having the heart and means to rescue him from those dreadful conditions. He's a happy boy now!!!!
Polly and Dave Gehr.

Incredible work.. buy a T and help GRIN help a Galgo.. they need you!
Hello, friends of GRIN!
We're involved in an exciting, artistic collaboration that we wanted to share with you (and anyone you want to share it with!), providing the opportunity to pick up a stunning, ultra-limited edition galgo T-shirt designed by internationally renowned Spanish illustrator Gary Fernandez.
KharmaNYC (KharmaNYC.com) – a new, cause-driven lifestyle brand – collaborated with 9 innovative and influential artists and creatives from around the world on a recently announced project called "This is What Matters to Me". Kharma asked each of the 9 designers to step away from their commercially-focused work and design a hand-crafted, limited edition screen printed T-shirt based around a cause that has had an impact on their personal life. Each artist thoughtfully selected an organization to support… and GRIN was one of the lucky organizations!
Gary chose Galgo Rescue International Network because he is a native of Spain who has seen the ongoing persecution of the breed. Kharma, Gary and GRIN have worked together over the last several months to develop the T, aimed at gaining extended attention and awareness for the plight of the galgo. And 40% of the proceeds from the sales will go directly to GRIN. To read more about Gary's story, click here:
