A SPECIAL PLEA
A special plea!!
Ciudad Animal are an association in Ciudad Real. They are an association dedicated to the care of abandoned animals, filling their sanctuary with over 100 dogs. Much like many associations they are stretched to the limits. However Ciudad Real is an area which their animals suffer tremendously with the irresponsibility of abandonment and poor respect and education. Thus only allowing for several carers.. one a 75 year old man who dedicates his time to helping Lidia and her colleagues. THere is Lidia, her boyfriend her colleague Loli and her husband. To which they between them care, clean cure, and rescue the many dogs they have there. danger lurks there and protection of the galgos is of paramount importance and this is the reason you wont see any on their web, or only from time to time. You may ask, how can such few people look after so many dogs? They ask themselves the same question.
Economy is tight, and as they have been rescuing dogs from other towns the council has now said they will not give them any subsidence and on top of that the debts they have with vets and food suppliers are stretching them beyond their means... and yet the dogs just need rescuing, and they just keep on coming! Until Spain answers to its neglect and poor education over animal welfare, with sterilisation programs which are compulsary and stopping hunting with galgos, the problem will continue for us to fight.
Moral is low when you try to do your best, and it feels like it just isnt good enough... so many dogs. pnuemonia cases, galgos with broken legs, paws, all need treating... there are few donations for ciudad animal, and those who donate pay a minimal charge of 5 euros a month. Perhaps an agricultural zone, makes living harder.. some who have adopted never forget the pain their dog suffered and on that basis they donate for those who have not yet been so fortunate. Adoptions take place all over and in Europe, mainly to get galgos away from the area, and for those other breeds of dog, - well when they enter ciudad animal, they never leave.. noone seems to adopt them.
So for me, I add my plea to Lidias... if you are thinking of adopting, if you would like to donate, foster, even be a foster carer they would be so very greatful. Just imagine a day in the life of the animals at Ciudad Animal, and the carers... its heartbreaking, yet all the time I am greatful they are there. This is my way of showing my support, to look for help on their behalf.. to show them we care. PLEASE think of them when considering any of the above, and contact Lidia or myself.
