BULLOS.. a living hell for hunting dogs. Un infierno para perros de caza.

Op.

The Volkswagen shows Galgo beauty, sleekness and elegance to a T. To match its car, impossible. Theres nothing more beautiful than a galgo in care with all its natural beauty.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p13lrmr_Dpg

https://www.facebook.com/#!/volkswagenesp

The VW advert introduces Galgos as beautiful, to match their cars. Its a way of not only gaining attention from those of us who dedicate to the rescue of the galgos, but also people who dont. It actually introduces them as pets. Lets people see their beauty and elegance, and even that they exist! As beautiful as the car... never!

REY.. on the rebound, of life!

http://112carlotagalgos.blogspot.com.es/2012/02/rey-king.html

Following Rey's story!

Rey (King of kings) -
He came to us from Sevilla where abandonment had left him. Where his galguero no longer valued his life. For at 7+ he has surely given his best to his master. Bred from, run and hunted been the prime of the group and caught the most hares. To be his age, is a credit to his survival.
A thin galgo still, and yet so united to be by my side, he loves to love and be loved.

However, being a black male galgo in Spain isnt easy. He has the odds against him. What works against the grain for homing is he is a hunter through and through. He has been bred to do such, and done such to survive. Until the day he gave up in Sevilla, thin and weak he lay down for no more he could take. Life had let him down and there was no longer a point. To hunt he needed to feed, and to feed he needed to hunt. Two circles of life which has kept him alive and for which he cant work out why he should not do this anymore.

Rey has a long way to go, he needs a very special home. Rey is a hunter, and has to be walked in a Galgo muzzle. For he has taken hunting to the limit and despite having a full stomach he takes the instinct too far for society in which we have rescued him into, and he no longer needs this trait to eat. Rey doesnt know this. So for him, smaller moving things are "prey!"

The mornings come and we open the barn doors, he greets us as they all do. He Has a habit of pooping and then eating.. and then searching out the others poohs. This will take time for its clear Rey has spent a long long time on the abandoned side of life. Feeding of whatever he can, smart enough to eat his own pooh when the chips were down for anything will do for an empty raw hungry stomach. Not wanted and certainly not loved. Rescued miraculously by 2 amazing carers who spotted him in sevilla, went home with one and he then later came to us at 112 carlota galgos.

Rey while everyone runs up the aisle of the passage way playing in happiness, Rey looks for my side. He follows me round and is only just showing slight hope of a personality individual to him. Theres a sheen coming on his coat, and the dandruff is lessoning. He is very slowly gaining weight.
He begins to shake, adrenalin pumping, for he knows he is going out. This is an interpretation of him seeing the pigs which wander the farm loose or the 2 ponies which do the same. Rey feels he has to hunt these animals, he has no idea why,for his stomach is full. An instinct high and doing what he has been bred to do. He also has a bad paw, and so, "was he dumped after he damaged his leg?" Or "did he damage it while abandoned?" He cant tell us. However his paw we have to look into more closely and help him with. Rey has also taken to trying to hunt smaller dogs and will do so if given the chance.

My heart goes out to Rey, he is trying so hard, sweet and loveable but cant understand why its not right anymore to hunt to kill.
In society which we introduce him into now, for his safety and for the safety of other dogs, cats, he can only be walked with a muzzle. His strength to pull and cry when he sees something which he considers prey is high, and to save from danger he has his muzzle. He doesnt mind it at all, and its for all protection.
He cannot live with small dogs, nor cats. He is happy with other dogs larger and also people. Caring and affectionate I watch him unfold his personality, to find himself. But this trait so inbred into him, ordered to do, I dont think will be taken away from him. So we have to adjust to his needs.
Rey needs someone to love him, a quiet life as he is an older galgo but somewhere he cannot hunt, and will always have to be walked on the lead.

Can you offer Rey, peace and tranquility. Continued work from us in that he doesnt need to hunt to eat.. freedom of this past life which has him enchained?

Rey, day by day we gain more, we learn more, and one day you will understand that its all ok now. We cannot reprimand him for something which is instinct to him, but we can remedy where he is and how he is cared for so he isnt under such tenseness.

Rey, King of survival. You are safe and well, and until your forever steps forward your bowl will be full, your neck hugged with love, bathed in shampoo and cleansed, all your needs met. Your paw treated. One day someone will love you for you, not scold you for what you have done or not done, and you will not be set up to fail - you will be happy.. to just be!
That we promise.

REMEMBER DIANA? OS RECORDAIS DE DIANA?

A special visitor Roberto all the way from Canada visits 112 Carlota galgos and caresses Dianas shaky body, for at this stage she still shook in fear. Dumped in a perrera from her Vet owner, she is a credit to survival and hope. Roberto has taken many a galgo to heart and helps by donating Betty's food to ensure that these rescued souls get good quality food! Thankyou Roberto.
UNA VISITA SUPER ESPECIAL, ROBERTO VENIA DE CANADA PARA VISITAR 112 CARLOTA GALGOS. AQUI VEMOS EL CARICIANDO EL CUERPO DE DIANA, CON CARIÑO. ROBERTO LLEVA MUCHOS GALGOS EN SU CORAZON GUARDADO, PERO LA AYUDA QUE EL NOS OFRECE ES INCREIBLE, Y PARA DIANA TAMBIEN. ROBERTO OFRECE PIENSO DE BETTY'S PARA QUE NUESTROS PERROS COMEN UNA DIETA BIEN. MIL GRACIAS ROBERTO.
Maria Angeles fell head over heels for Diana in love, here we see such affection. No more shaking and Diana is attached to her new mama and loves her dearly. MARIA ANGELES SE HA CAIDO TOTALMENTE ENAMORADO DE DIANA DE PRIMER VISTA. AQUI VEAMOS ESTA CARIÑO QUE TIENE PARA SU GALGUITA DIANA. DIANA ESTA APEGADO A SU MAMA TAMBIEN.
When we took Diana in, I promised her care, attention, her time to recover,  and to believe she is someone special, and that someone special will one day take her home and love her. This is just what happened. A happy beginning to a distraught life.. as a hunting galga, now living as she should. Just her, Maria Angeles and their cat!
CUANDO HEMOS COGIEDO DIANA, HE PROMETIDO CUIDOS, ATENCION, SU TIEMPO PARA RECUPERARSE, Y QUE ELLA PUEDE CREER QUE HAY ALGUIEN ESPECIAL JUSTO PARA ELLA. Y UN DIA VENDRA PARA LLEVARSE LA A CASA. ASI ES COMO FUE. ASI EMPIEZE SU NUEVA VIDA, FELIZ, SU PASADO COMO UNA GALGA DE CAZARIA SIN VALOR YA VIVE COMO DEBE SER. ELLA, MARIA ANGELES Y SU GATO!

Remember Diana?

Diana was rescued from a perrera where she had been dumped by her vet. she was no longer needed nor required and so this is where we found her. Shaking in the corner beyond fear. She shook so much I even wondered if she had a trapped nerve. It took time but her fear and disbelief in people improved, and here she is. She also had a small heart murmur and so longed for just a relaxed life.
Well, here she is, relaxed and loved as promised she would find. Greyhounds in Need helped with her preparation sterilisation veterinary costs, to which we are extremely greatful. Im so proud of this galga. she deserves all the happiness in the world, just what maria Angeles and her cat offer her!

OS RECORDAIS DE DIANA?

DIANA FUE RESCATADA DE UNA PERRERA, DONDE SE HA SIDO DEJADO POR SU DUEÑA VETERINARIA. NO ERA NECESARIA USAR LA MAS, Y ASI ES DONDE HEMOS ENCONTRADO ESTA GALGA. TEMBLANDO EN LA ESQUINA. TIRITANDO. TANTO QUE HE PENSADO PODRIA TENER UN NERVIO AFECTADO. PERO NO, ERA MIEDO! DESPUES DE ALGUNOS MESES SU FE´EN PERSONAS EMPEZADO A MEJORAR, PERO TARDABA.
TENIA UN SOPLO EN EL CORAZON, Y ELLA DESDE SU CORAZON LLAMO ALGUIEN QUIEN PUEDE OFRECER LA UN HOGAR PARA RELAJARSE, TOMAR SOL, Y ESTAR AMADO. COMO NOSOTROS HEMOS PROMETIDO. GRYHOUNDS IN NEED AYUDAO CON LA ESTERILISACION DE DIANA, LO CUAL QUE ESTAMOS MUY AGRADECIDOS POR SU AYUDA. ESTOY SUPER ORGULLOSA DE ESTA NIÑA, ELLA MERECE TODO LA FELICIDAD EN EL MUNDO, EXACTAMENTE LO QUE MARIA ANGELES Y SU GATO ESTA DANDO!

SOLVANG Weekend and GRIN. ...

Meet Telma Shaw and Galgo lover and supporter Mora.

Telma is an avid Galgo supporter and works tirelessly in favour of saving this endangered breed of dog. The Galgo, treated as vermin starved and usless in a galgueros eyes. To us, to Telma and her colleagues who help, they are treasures, they are gold and they have hearts which are so big when they enter in your soul you cannot get enough.

Tirelessly working together to fight for the breed to be known as a household pet, GRIN connects with asociations in Spain, including 112 carlota galgos, to help the rescued Galgos and give hope to us as rescuers and carers that there are people who care, love and support them and us.

SOLVANG weekend was created for the Greyhound lover and supporter, to which also have terrible times. Its the breed of dog that just seems to call attention to itself in a abusive way for it is humble, and suffers in silence, a dog which does not bark nor complain.

Its here we all step in to  do our best to love them and support each other.

My deepest thanks to Telma and her colleagues, to Marci for placing on display and selling the 112 carlota galgo brooches, for the belief they have in the galgos and asoc. here in Spain. To which Telma has introduced to the Solvang supporters. This has meant that many more people are aware of the situation and help. Helping GRIN helps us here on the ground.

Dear Telma, GRIN, and GRIN supporters. In name of the Spanish galgo, 112 carlota galgos and the asoc. you endeavour to help, THANKYOU with all my heart.

From us all here, in Spain.
In Galgo affection, always.
