Una nueva vida


CONSEGUIR un nuevo hogar a los galgos que son abandonados cuando no sirven para la caza fue el objetivo de un encuentro de adoptantes de estos perros.


Grant, cuando fue rescatado en Utrera por la asociación Ddvida, se encontraba atado a una farola y estaba en los huesos. Después de recuperarse y vivir varios meses en una residencia, Grant va a ser adoptado por una familia holandesa. La historia de este galgo no es única. Esta raza de animales es abandonada cuando finaliza la temporada de caza o no so sirven para las carreras, por lo que desde varias asociaciones andaluzas se está apostando por la adopción de estos perros para que se conviertan en animales de compañía. El pasado sábado, 3 de noviembre, en el Refugio del Burrito en Fuente de Piedra tuvo lugar el I Encuentro de Adoptantes de Galgos, que contó con la participación de la asociación Ddvida de Sevilla, la Protectora Scooby de Medina del Campo (Valladolid), y la asociación malagueña CYD Santamaría. Durante este encuentro se pudieron ver galgos adoptados de diferentes asociaciones que fomentan la adopción de animales abandonados. A este encuentro asistieron unos 25 galgos que han sido adoptado por distintas familias. Durante la jornada realizaron una visita a Fuente de Piedra donde recorrieron las principales calles con estos animales para que los vecinos vieran que son perros que se adaptan perfectamente a vivir en una casa.Al igual que Grant a diario las asociaciones de animales recogen a numerosos galgos. Con este encuentro se ha pretendido concienciar en la adopción de esta raza, ya que son perros nobles y muy simpáticos, señaló el presidente de la Protectora Scooby, Fermín Pérez. Además Scooby está realizando terapias con galgos en enfermos de Alzheimer, en residencias de ancianos y en niños con discapacidad, ya que son unos animales muy dóciles y se dejan acariciar fácilmente.Pérez denunció que los propietarios de galgos los consideran como un animal de usar y tirar y cuando ya no les sirven se deshacen de ellos, utilizando métodos tales como ahorcarlos y tirarlos a pozos. "Con la adopción pretendemos darles una segunda oportunidad a un perro dócil y noble que es ideal como animal de compañía", señaló Pérez.En Utrera, al haber una gran afición a la caza, también hay muchos galgos. En este municipio trabaja la asociación Ddvida que durante sus tres años de vida ha rescatado a numerosos galgos de morir. Encarnación Ranea, una de las responsables de la asociación, manifestó que una vez que rescatan al perro, lo cuidan de sus heridas, lo nutren y comienza la etapa para que sean adoptados, a través de su página web las personas que estén interesadas en adopciones pueden ver a los animales.AdopcionesRanea señaló que muchos de los galgos son adoptados en países del norte de Europa, ya que en esta zona se considera al galgo como un perro de compañía, mientras que en España y sobre todo en Andalucía la gente no tiene esa conciencia, por este motivo organizan encuentros para concienciar a la población.Este I Encuentro de Adoptantes de Galgos realizado en Fuente de Piedra se ha organizado, ya que el director del Refugio del Burrito, Iván Salvia, tiene adoptado a tres galgos y Charlotte del Río, adoptó uno a través de Ddvida y decidieron realizar un encuentro para concienciar a la población.Cualquier persona que esté interesada en adoptar un galgo español y conocer los problemas que sufre esta raza sólo tiene que entrar en la página web ddevida@ddevida.org.

PETA JOINS THE CAMPAIGN FOR GALGOS!

PETA ALERT - (peticion below!)

I am so thrilled to have worked alongside PETA and proud to say that they have made an ALERT against the cruelty to the SPANISH GALGO!

This is an alert that when you sign the peticion, will automatically go through to the government officials in protest to "hunting with galgos" and the cruelty they have to endure in the hands of hunters. It is a protest which works towards achieving a LAW AGAINST CRUELTY - and one so desperately needed in Spain.
The sad facts are that right now, what happens to a galgo, is not criminal... if we all work together to sign peticions and one voice becomes millions, we may just achieve a law to make these "CRIMES" with "Consequences to the offenders!"

The problems the galgos face in Spain are horrendous, from falling into the wrong hands and being treated like vermin, from as young as being born - to when they are no long needed and then killed in many a way.
Some left to street life, and to the hands of those who think they can take matters into their own hands. " galgos = vermin!" Eradicated as pests... what did they do so wrong, just be born noble serene, silent suffrers, born into the wrong hands. Fates decided at that early age, live or die!

To those of us who know the GALGO - they are the sweetest most kindest dogs and extremely noble. To raise a family with a galgo as the family pet is very rewarding, and they will love you forever more.

Please take a moment to look at the peticion and add your name to the fight against this cruelty. El dia 3 de Noviembre, vamos a celebrar un dia genial con nuestros Galgos, en compañia de nuestros amigos en "El refugio del Burrito!"
Os invito a pasar el dia con nosotros, - en compania de todos quien cuidan, quien tiene como mascota, o quien lucha para la defensa de los Galgos, Burros, Caballos, y todos los animales. Tambien invitamos a tus amigos, y familia. Vamos a pasar MUY BIEN pero necesitamos saber si puedes venir?
Vamos hacer tener sorteos, agility, (aun que en plan relajados!!!) un paseo al pueblo con los burros y galgos/mascotas para comer alli en un bar (cada persona se paga para su comida etc..) 3 de Noviembre

PARTY FOR GALGOS!!!
The 3rd of November we are celebrating a fantastic day with our Galgos in the company of our friends in "El refugio del Burrito!"
You are invited to spend the day with us - in company of all those who care for galgos, who have Galgos as their best friends, and who takes on the challenge of protecting the galgos in need, as with donkeys, horses, and all animals that need protecting!Our invitation extends to friends and family.
We are going to have a GREAT DAY but need to know if you will be there?
We are celebrating our galgos lives in style, we will have raffles, a doggie agility (albeit relaxed!!!!!) and a walk into town with the donkeys and mascots. A great fay for all the family. We will be eating in the town (each person is responsible for payment of their own lunch!)

If you would like to stay over, a local hotel has vacancies and is very comfortable and will allow you to stay with your galgos/mascots!!!! :)

HELP A LITTLE PODENCA!

About 6 weeks ago, a couple from Gaianes, near Muro de Alcoy, spotted a Podenca tied to the wall and in terrible condition. A collar so tight - and very thin. The next day having thought about the little podenca, they went outside onto the patio and who is asleep on the chair, the same little podenca girl! Somehow she had managed to free herself fronm the hands of the person so cruel who had left her there. Probably like many, to die starving. She was in terrible condition, and what got their attention most was the gash across her neck. They nursed her, and fed her and left her to sleep, for days she slept.

She is sweet but a puppy so of course now she feels well with a full belly, she is lively. The couple is an elderly couple an dhave 2 dogs and 2 cats already, they cannot take her in as her forever home. They will foster her until a permanent home is found, and would like to make a plea for any help in the search for a home, forever.
