This web page is dedicated to every Spanish Galgo who is being tortured as you read this, and awaiting the kind hand of courage to come in and rescue them. Every letter I have written, had published, and every person I have spoken to about the galgos, it is in dedication to them. Goodbye Gandalf, Good luck.. Polyana, homeward bound!

Gandalfs Going home, at last! Fairwell Polyana, good luck sweet girl.

Por fin, Gandalf se va a casa! Adios Polyana, mucha suerte.. dulce Poly!

Dioni at Lidias on Gandalfs arrival..3 years ago. Its all alright now.

 A hug of safety
 Gandalf Charl and Lidia
 Gandalf and Lidia,.. pure love.
I dont know who won whose heart here, but I do know its love. The best foster mama ever!
 Gandalf and foster siblings. Lidias.
Below.. Gandalfs eyes pierce right into your heart..

Crystal, Gandalfs sister                           Gandalf, finally on the sofa AT HOME!
 Polyana after her rescue..

Polyana at charls after a bath

Polyanas friend, Susana, Angela and taz

Polyana with Luna, fast asleep.

Good luck Gandalf!
Gandalf has spent the last 3 years with Lidia, in her care and love. Gandalf has been the "invisible" galgo for as long as he has lived. Passed up, passed by without a single question about him. Nothing, noone appealed to Gandalfs pleading eyes. Telling his tale of pain and anxiety as a galgo in Spain, a slight mix of podenco but enough to put people off. Black, male, and not all galgo, enough to turn people away. An existance of abandonment, rescued by Tina. went into foster care which didnt work out. For Gandalf didnt settle, and so we took him on. He went into Lidias care straight away, to whom we are  very greatful. Her love, affection, patience and dedication turned Gandalf around. He found love and life.
On the day Jay wrote and asked about Gandalf, I knew she was the one. I knew that she had seen his eyes, through his photo and he had beckoned to her to take him home. so she did!
Gandalf left Spain the 14th May 2012.. to be loved forever in his new home. Loved and cared for, Jay told me she has seen into his soul via his eyes, and I knew, i knew he was home.
Jay, and East Riding retired greyhounds team, for making this possible.   http://eastriding.retiredgreyhounds.co.uk/

Polyana...
Sweet Polyana, cane to us several months ago now from the streets of Sevilla. She was rescued by Bligoo Sevilla and brought to us with Rey. She needed confidance, and care. She came around relatively quickly, and won my heart. Her fur soft and her face gentle. Id clean the stable and before long find and  nose by my side. She would look for me while walking, she would turn and need me by her side. I was there, and will always be. No matter what she needs, I will give her my all. Polyana acompanied Gandalf to the UK and is at home adjusting to English life. In general at the stables I speak to the galgos in English, but they do listen to Spanish as well and so a new country, new temperatures, and language is alot to take in. She is playful, accepting her treats and loving her walks.

Again, we cannot thank you enough for your love and support for these two special galgos. For all your help in supporting their journey to the UK and in the promise of a new life, forever.
In galgo affection, always.

Meeting Marci and Apolo in need of special care.

Please help us to help Marci and Apolo!

Meeting Marci.

The contact was made via Badajoz to myself regards an older galga who was thrown over the fence into a volunteers property who helps out in the local refuge. Thin, and life robbed from her, clearly bred from, and in poor condition. A wound open, oozing and yet blue spray had been sprayed on the place, where her galguero had disowned her and removed her chip! His mind clear and no guilt for he has done in his mind, the right thing.. "dumped her over the fence, with blue spray on her wound which he has caused!"
With no feeling, no life within her she was at least safe. Having dedicated time to her galguero giving her all, and no longer wanted for her pups will be new blood and she, underweight, poor skin, and knocking on in age, just wont do anymore. Surplus to requirements, theres just no need to keep her. For in her galgueros eyes she has no feelings, no heart or soul and yet she drowns in sadness for she has never felt the embrace of a person, never been proud of, and never been loved.

The day she was thrown over the fence into the volunteers land, was her day of freedom. Since 2 weeks on, she has come to 112 carlota galgos stables and its here we met Marci!
Scared, and timid getting into the van, we met her carers at the top of the road. They had brought her all the way from Badajoz, Fatima and Sebas. Her fur so soft running through my fingers, her eyes so dark and face so soft, I could only melt as I embraced her. She approached dubiously but curiously and its here she will find herself, what she is worth, and that someone somewhere will love her for who she is.
At 112 carlota galgos, there is no rush, just time to find themselves when they are new, and the routine will take over and life will return to her. She will eventually enjoy her days, and her playmates until her forever finds her. Tomorrow Marci has her tests done, and she will need to be sterilised as soon as possible because she has a slight belly! Wormed, it remains to be seen if she has slipped through the net of her galguero and is in pup.

Either way, Marci you have a light in your life which will shine, we promise you love, and care. To help you adjust to a new life, one you didnt know exists and it is our pleasure to be there for you, and to watch you blossom. You wil in time, come into your own, and find freedom from your past and release from your pain. You wont be held back now, its yours for the taking and we are here to help and guide you, and help you on your way to forever!

Marci is around 6 or 7, maybe more. Her teeth arent great so Ill see what the vet estimates. She needs time, she needs her tests done, and sterilisation. Chip and passport.

Ahhhhhh Apolo.

Apolo, a podenco again thrown into the same plot of land, small and terrified beyond belief. Squealing at the approach of anyone, and should anyone come close he would lie on his back and scream and scream, awaiting the beating her has received.. for just being a podenco in Spain. Who knows.. he may not have hunted enough, he may not have been good at it, he may have been too young for his hunter, or not young enough, he may not have known how to hide well enough, and list is endless to warrant a beating in a galgueros eyes! Being the punch bag for a galgueros frustrations in life, is what a galgo and podenco seem to be worth to them, no more no less.

Speaking with Fatima, this little podenco needed help. He needed the guidance of a rehabilitation situation. Taken to their refuge he didnt cope there either, and was terrified. screaming where he felt he needed to, in order to keep people away from him. A sad existance he has led.
I didnt think twice when talking with fatima that she had both the galga in need of love, vacant in her soul and needing help, and the podenco who has had his life robbed, trashed and been the victim of beatings so clearly dished out to him. Placing his ant escape collar onto him was delicate, I had to lay it on the floor to have him smell it. As I approached I saw his fear, and he lay down. Whimpering, belly up. I tickled his belly, and slid the collar over his head and then walked away. He came to me.. its all new.

I named him Apolo as I did the Galga "Marci." To me Marci means, hope, help, and support. Apolo.. well I named this lil chap Apolo because it means strength, the "God of light" lover of music and poetry. I have promised this lil one, a life of music and he will see the light at the end of his tunnel, thats been dark and torturous, he will hear our words of comfort and eventually it will be poetry. We offer them both, hope, help and support, and we will be there for them every step of the way now until their families find them.

I have promised these two misguided individuals that they will be guided, loved and cared for, and that never again will a hand hurt them. Apolo is young, and has yet to have his tests done, vaccinations, passport chip and castration.

If you would like to help us help these 2 souls, it would be amazing. It would help us to see hope, and be cared for. It would help us do what we can for these 2 souls in need of help. I pray I can hold Marci and she lets me wrap my arms around her neck, to tell her she has others who will help us help her, her long fluffy galgo fur, soft and gentle. We need your help to help them, its never easy but good diet, vets bills and rent all add up. The help we receive the enconuraging words, the food, blankets, vets, rent, keep us going, keeps the doors open for others to come in and be healed and find their forevers.

It's a tough love, loving where you see such destruction, caring for the wounded, the scars of destruction, but Im greatful we are allowed to do this, because its in my soul and its here I make my stance, to stand by them forever and see them find their own special families. With everyones help, I know we can.

In galgo affection.

A rescue of two souls, stunning and gorgous, lost but now found, and always remembered at 112 carlota galgos. Fairwell Halo and Bruno!

Halo, rescued from Jerez perrera! All bones and lost in himself, .. dumped by his galguero for death.. rescued and safe Dioni collected him with Mariposa. (Mariposa Adopted.)
Daily walk with Bruno, Halo and Mariposa. The 3 muskateers! stunning and awaiting life before them!
Bruno.. its ok now. A moments caress and encouraging word.

Bruno, rescued from the streets of Sevilla, a stunning and gentle galgo. He joins Halo in his stable.
This is Bruno, rescued at Olgas house. She rescued Bruno of the streets before he came over to 112 carlota galgos who were awaiting him. a successful rescue.
Somewhere in the distance is my past.. a long way to go, but we bid goodbye to trauma and pain, and we all look to the future with an encourageing hand and a faithful carer. We are believed in here!
Dioni walking the galgos, .. "the best part of the day for them!" man's best friend, now rescued by a man! Learning to have faith again in a man, to trust and see here theres no pain.

Dioni, rey Bruno and Halo, waiting for the rest of the gang to catch up for the first walk of the day! As ever, Niebla on guard!
On Brunos early arrival to the stables he met Paula, a press student who wrote up on 112 Carlota galgos as her project required.

Welcome Harvey!!!! Belguim Rescue steps in and finds home for halo and Bruno! Here's Harvey at work, walking the galgos he is taking back with him for their forever homes are waiting.
Dioni and Harvey, Polyana, Taz, wolf, Halo and Bruno..
Thankyou Greyhounds in Need for helping with these special boys costs..
Here's Halo on his way to the airport to go to Belguim! He is so chilled!
 Adios chicos...
And here Bruno now Beau.. in his home. STUNNING!
Photos to follow of Halo.
THANKYOU GRB!

My deepest thanks to Greyhounds Rescue Belguim for finding forever homes for two boys who were awaiting a future. Halo and Bruno fast became best friends, and I would find them head resting on head, and always together. Sharing the same bed, same double lead, and looking for one another. Halo young and playful, after a dull life easier to feel nothing, numb is how he came to us and he took awhile to find his personality. When he did, he was hilarious and affectionate. Bruno, a big strong galgo who has a heart to match. Stunning in everyway, and yet had marks all over him. A gentle soul and easy going. He had his own style which he quite very often hung his tongue out the side of his mouth as if to say "its all too much!" Happy to fit in, and be cuddled. Theres nothing quite like a galgo looking for a place in your heart and there by your side to look for a hug!

We will always love you, and always keep you in our heart. We are so proud of you both and happy you have gone home. Good luck!

Mucha suerte!

Galgo News, April Book sale and walk.

Michelle Poupard, Agility Judge, retired teacher.

Dorothy and friend, collected 85 euros serving coffees and teas with cakes, on a chilly wet day.

Pauline and her border collie led the small walk in the wet weather.
www.galgonews.com

112 Carlota Galgos thanks Beryl Brennan and her supporters in name of the Spanish Galgo for organising an event day which meant weathering the french rain!

Beryl, a galgo lover, supporter and friend networks via GALGO NEWS with rescues, help, missions, missions inmpossible which in the end are not so impossible with her help, all in name of the Spanish Galgo and Podenco.

The event in April was arranged for a book and plant sale, and walk. The weather turned against them, but didnt beat the galgo supporters!! Out in style weathering the storms in name of the Galgo, for we all know when it rains, pours, storms, hails, snows and beats down with 40º heat, the galgo is helpess.

I can honestly say, that without supporters, helpers, volunteers, donations, events, days would become so much harder. It can mean the differance between no more, and taking one more lost soul in. Or more! As cut and dried as that. Sadly money is what keeps everything ticking over, and the conditions that galgos come in, are unfavourable to them, vets bills rise and they need good food.

Id like to take a moment, to try to say thankyou to Galgo News supporters in France for this wonderful day, for weathering the storm. Its very difficult to put into words and express the gratitude I feel, or we as supporters of galgos, for without such help it actually really does mean the differance in treatments, saving a galgo, or being unable to take anymore. Everything revolves sadly around costs so when people come out in force and step up for the galgos, no matter what the weather to participate, to aid benefits, well, its breath taking. The support felt is truly amazing and I can imagine Beryl must feel very proud. I certainly do! Making all the differance, to placing a roof over the galgos heads and rehabilitation for these poor galgos and podencos. Thankyou is never enough. Without you, we just couldnt reach those we have.
My deepest thanks, for all your support - in the name of the Spanish galgo, we continue, all of us together, to make change.

In galgo affection.
