¿Seprona antes castiga ahora no?

Celebrating the Galgos in France - 1st Fete des Galgos

Heres what our dear friend Beryl shares with her 1st Fetes de Galgos France. So honoured to work with Beryl, she is a great angel for the Spanish galgos and Podencos.

Sunday, 12th September was the date organised for our first Fun Dog Show, Fete des Galgos, Craft Fair, display of classic cars and motorcycles and Have a Go Archery. There should also have been a display of dog agility, but the French club decided not come! Their loss, as everyone had a fantastic day and there have been many demands to repeat the event next year. So, 11th September 2011 is the date and the event will be even bigger. I won't say better, because everyone keeps saying what a marvellous day it was.

Our wonderful very experienced dog show Judge, Stephen Moon, tells me his friend Graham, who has offered to judge the show next year, will also be judging at Crufts show in England next year! Can't get better than that. Stephen said he thoroughly enjoyed his day, said what a lovely attitude the participants had. The show was meant to be fun, and that is exactly what it was.

So, folks, here's a picture gallery to share with you. And remember that, on the same day, brave Lisa jumped out of an aeroplane at 5,000 feet over Seville, Spain, to celebrate our day too. If you haven't donated to her marvellous achievement, please email a Paypal donation to comdelrio@hotmail.com for the association 112 Carlota Galgos.

JMB animal feed supplies who very kindly gave a 4kg bag of dog croquettes to the 1st and 2nd placed dog in each class

President of L'Europe des Levriers, Beatrice Monnet, Secretary Pierrette, and Benedicte, husband, family and half a dozen galgos all supported the event as did Freddy and Gigi with Pepere. I did pop out with my own galgas Sahara and Carmela but, unfortunately, such were the demands on my time and attention that I had to hand them over into the safe hands of Tim of Scootbooks.com, publishers of my book.

I need to mention also David Best and Doreen Jeapes, who did a marvellous job as Entries Secretaries, Dorothy, Trevor and Sue who were the stalwart coffee and tea makers for the dog show, (Dorothy made the beautiful cake for Guess the Weight), Joint Aid, natural product for arthritic dogs and horses, and Saint Pardoux Pension pour Chiens who sponsored the rosettes this year.

Last but not least, I must give a special mention and BIG THANK YOU to Pete Dobson, who manned the gate and collected 1 euro for every car which came and parked. Originally we had organised a team of 4, but one had to return to England on the last minute for a friend's funeral, one had a bad back, and my David was pulled every which way with a tent blowing away and electricity power cuts! Pete was out on the gate for 5 or 6 hours, an absolute Star!

I had a marvellous team of helpers who all enjoyed the day and are keen to get involved in the organisation for next year!

Good Luck to GRIN for their Fiesta des Galgos on 19th September!

FETES de Galgos FRANCE and Fiesta de los Greyhounds USA

In conjunction with The freedom jump for the Spanish galgo, Beryl Brannan from Galgo News organised the same day 12.9.10 the 1st Fetes de Galgos. The 19th Followed in style with the 1st Fiesta de los Greyhounds USA organised by Telma Shaw GRIN in celebration of th SPANISH GALGO and publicity for their FREEDOM.

A GREAT day was held by all at the Fetes de Galgos and requests were made for a repeat. We will link in with another Freedom jump next year and add it to our publicity stunts for the galgos. Many many people came with their pets and had a great day. Loads of activities were organised, and alongside another asociation which Beryl dedicates to she has kindly sponsored 112Carlota Galgos. To which we are so happy and proud to have been a part of and recived a kind dontion.

THANKYOU to you all who participated and helped raise funds supporting Beryl and the galgos.

Our sincerest thanks.

Our thanks also go to Telma who alongside other asociations has sponsored 112 Carlota Galgos from the 1st Fiesta de Greyhounds. We are truly proud to be a part of GRIN as well, and thankyou for the support you have offered for the galgos.

The day consisted of activities, picnic and also a dress up in Spanish constume.. thats the galgos!!!!

Help for Ruso.

Os Presento Ruso. Introducing Ruso!

Ruso - A Galgo Español, born into severity a life of unwantedness. A young Galgo left to fend for himself like so many tens of thousands in Spain, and numbers soaring.
Such disregaurd and neglect.
Ruso thought he met his end when he ended being struck down by a lorry. Left to die in the same position, left alone in agony. A hit and run.. but no need for the driver to run here in Spain, for its not uncommon for someone to knock an animal down, dog, cat.. and look the other way. "Can't possibly pick it up, I may have a huge vet bill! " " cant pick it up, Im in a hurry!"
Whatever the excuse, none are good enough for such disgust. An indefensive animal struck down by a humans actions, to be left is a crime. Or rather it should be!
He was taken to a refuge in Murcia along with 2 other galgos, to meet his fate and be sacrificed. A week of agony without even looking at him. To then meet his saviour, his guardian Angel who cant bare to see he cannot stand, not mention walk. Out went the plea for Ruso... and his friends.
Silvia yet again Guardian Angel steps up and takes Ruso. He is journeyed by car to her and taken immediately to the vet. He has a fractured hip and his surgery is going to be extremely expensive. Silvia also arranging help for the other 2 galgos. Help from Telma in America, Galgo resuce, and help from Beryl Galgo news. France.
Heres a video of Ruso now.. having been to the vets and on his feet! Its going to be a long recovery and slow, he arrived with worms coming out of his mouth so imagine pain from his leg and pain from his gut.
From here on in, his future is safe. Bless all of you helping Ruso, from donations, carers, vets, and Silvia.

I feel sad today.....

I feel so sad today...

because I'm tired, so tired to see such disregaurd for the Spanish galgo and what feels like their endless plight.
I'm sad to look at case after case and yet no matter what I feel I never feel what a Galgo feels.. their pain -solitary life and agonising torture.
i'm sad today, i want to make a differance and want it to STOP, the endless torture, the hunting and abandonment and yet i see we are into another season of hunting with a government who dont give a damn.

i'm sad today, for those ive seen and for those ive not.
the endless wandering the streets and hiding out scared of their own shadows. Im sad today, for i will go to bed tonight and know there are too many Ive missed, too many out there scared of themselves.

im sad today to have the same make up as a human, for those who harm and for me who in the eyes of those abused "look the same" yet my heart is so different and and needy to make change.

Im sad today - for the thousands of asoc. who try endlessly but are FULL, NO ROOM AT THE INN.. and for those who try to make room, but their own lives ruined, sleepless nights, worry about payments, bills, illness's, slots.. and the forever galgo who came up and wont be caught.

i'm sad today for i look in my galgos eyes and have promised him for all the days of my life I will fight to protect the Spanish galgo from the hell which appears to exist for them.. and sad for all i want is change - a new life, a new future with rights - a light at the end of the tunnel - a ray of hope, for the galgo Español-
Sr.galguero, you have blood on your hands!

Here in this house... I will never know the loneliness I hear in the barks of the other dogs 'out there'.
I can sleep soundly, assured that when I wake my world will not have changed.
I will never know hunger, or the fear of not knowing if I'll eat.
I will not shiver in the cold, or grow weary from the heat.
I will feel the sun's heat, and the rain's coolness, and be allowed to smell all that can reach my nose.
My fur will shine, and never be dirty or matted.

Here in this house... There will be an effort to communicate with me on my level.
I will be talked to and, even if I don't understand, I can enjoy the warmth of the words.
I will be given a name so that I may know who I am among many.
My name will be used in joy, and I will love the sound of it!

Here in this house... I will never be a substitute for anything I am not.
I will never be used to improve peoples' images of themselves.
I will be loved because I am who I am, not someone's idea of who I should be.
I will never suffer for someone's anger, impatience, or stupidity.
I will be taught all the things I need to know to be loved by all.
If I do not learn my lessons well, they will look to my teacher for blame.

Here in this house... I can trust arms that hold, hands that touch...
knowing that, no matter what they do, they do it for the good of me.
If I am ill, I will be doctored. If scared, I will be calmed. If sad, I will be cheered.
No matter what I look like, I will be considered beautiful and known to be of value.
I will never be cast out because I am too old, too ill, too unruly, or not cute enough.
My life is a responsibility, and not an afterthought.
I will learn that humans can almost, sometimes, be as kind and as fair as dogs.
Here in this house... I will belong. I will be home.
