RITA EN ADOPCION! Rita, in adoption!

Introducing Rita:

Rita is a young galga who is approx. 1 year old. She was rescued by Sandro a volunteer on the road to Santiago. Taking cover in a local rest area. Abandoned as the hunt season came to a close. To a hunter its a pointless exercise to continue feeding the dog, when next year there will be fresh blood to choose from. "The same old story!"

Her muscle form shows that she was raced on the flat, she arrived very very scared, but now totally different. She is happy and playful and sociable. She is good with dogs and cats and is living with cats at the moment. Doesnt pull on the lead, and she loves children.

Thanks to all those who formed a chain so that her rescue wa a success. she has been rescued from sure death. All blood analysis are negative, she will be in adoption sterilised, chipped, vaccinated and with adoption contract. A continued care program will be in place.

A Tragic Tale and waste of life yet again at the hands of man!

Today, I write in black, because I feel saddened at the story that has just fallen into my hands, I feel black with horror and shame at being a human. This is the tale of an abandoned dog, who fell prey into the hands of Artist Guillermo Vargas Habacuc.. Artist I rather say Murderer!!! He takes an abandoned dog and ties him up on a short rope in a gallery.. would you believe it, to die a long and pained death. Left to starve and die of thirst he is there for all to see, in his pain and exposicion as a starved abandoned dog.

To the horror of animal lovers there are people in the gallery who watch the dog and noone moves a muscle. What is wrong with people I ask you? How can this happen, it is beyond my comprehension?

Below you will see a peticion, PLEASE PLEASE take a moment and add your signiture, it just takes a moment and it may help in bringing this monstor to justice albeit too late for the poor dog. You will also see a you tube video, but be prepared the scene is a sad one and will affect you. It did me, for all the things I have seen, this is one case I just find deplorable!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6vP8CgTonQ

SOS Poor Podenquita!

POOR PODENCA!

And so the latest tragedy is apparent from the photos below. It seems amzing to me just HOW these galgos and podencos have such a "will" to survive and beat the odds and yet have never known kindness to know it would be worthwhile surviving, holding on until a rescue comes, till that guardian angel they have been waiting for through the cold nights and starved day, finally steps in and scoops them to safety. Love and kindness at last will come!

Cala is a little podenca x. She was foun in a trap where the vet said she was probably there some 5 days! Imagine, could you hang on 5 days, scared and in agaony in the elements, cold hungry and sick in pain? Yet there she was clinging to life, unable to move. Her leg has needed to be amputated from the shoulder, she has a very dagerous infection from having fractures open and the wound left un treated. When the trap was removed she didnt utter a sound.. she is in a state of extreme malnourishment and desperate for an adoption.. this family would need to be aware of her "special needs" now a 3 legged podenca, but she will be so loving . I am told a more loving dog there couldnt be. She will need lots and lots of love and attention to over come her pain and the torture she has suffered, please if you can adopte her contact the email below. Or of course myself. Heres to you Lil Cala, and a new home.

COPIO.

HERE I INTRODUCE HIS STORY..

"Ddevida necesita ayuda.

DDEVIDA DENOUNCES BEFORE THE GUARDIA CIVIL IN UTRERA A CASE OF ONE DOG WHO WAS THROWN AWAY,HAD BEEN SHOT. THURSDAY THE 7TH FEBUARY AROUND 5.30PM

FOUND OUT ABOUT WHAT HAD HAPPENED DUE TO A PHONE CALL BY A MEMBER OF THE PUBLIC, TO A LOCAL VETS. WHEREBY AT THIS TIME THERE WERE A FEW VOLUNTEERS IN THE CLINIC. COLLECTING THE DOG AND TAKEN HIM BACK TO THE VETS FOR THE CARE HE SO DESPERATELY NEEDED. THE DOG, A CROSS SPANIEL - MALE AND NO IDENTIFICATION CHIP, WAS SHOWN TO HAVE 2 SHOT GUN SHOT WOUNDS. ON AN XRAY, YOU CAN SEE CLEARLY THAT ONE OF THE SHOTS WAS AT THE ARTERY NEAR THE HIP. THIS CAUSING A FRACTURE AND ANOTHER ABOVE THE DIAPHRAGM. AFTER 48 HOURS OF FLUIDS AND TREATMENT IT WAS NECESSARY TO AMPUTATE THE FRONT RIGHT PAW.
FROM DDEVIDA WE WANT TO EXPRESS OUR PUBLIC THANKS TO THE PERSON WHO FOUND THE WOUNDED ANIMAL AND DID NOT STOP UNTIL HE WAS TAKEN FOR TREATMENT. AT THE SAME TIME WE ASK THAT THE POPULATION THAT IN CASES SUCH AS THIS ONE THEY DO NOT HESITATE TO DENOUNCE BEFORE THE AUTHORITIES AND THAT THEY TAKE THE MEASURES NECESSARY TO INVESTIGATE THE CASE FURTHER. THIS CANNOT AFFORD TO HAPPEN AGAIN, AND MEASURES MUST BE TAKEN TO ACHIEVE THIS. NOONE KNOWS WHERE THE NEXT GUN SHOT WOUND MAY BE.

NOW WE NEED TO TAKE ON BOARD THE COSTS WHICH WE HAVE INCURRDE AT THE VETS, AND THESE ARE OVER 500 EUROS. WE ARE ASKING FOR HELP IN ORDER THAT WE CAN CONTINUE THE CARE OF THE DOG, PAY THE BILLS AND HIS CARE UNTIL HE CAN BE ADOPTED INTO A FAMILY. MANIFESTACIÓ EN DEFENSA DELS ANIMALS
(vida i dignitat pels animals, Administracions, feu complir la llei!)23 FEBRER 2008 12 HORES PLAÇA CATALUNYABarcelona
MAXIMA PARTICIPACION Y DIFUSION!!!

Bajo el lema VIDA I DIGNITAT PELS ANIMALS.

G.R.I.N's latest rescue!!!

Galgo Rescue International as seen in the Noa story regularly comes to Spain and takes galgos, Podencos and hunting dogs to America where they are offered a chance of a fantastic family, a great support group and a new life.

The journeys are hard for these dogs, its a long way for us as humans who can rationalise with such a trip, but having lived through the pain and torture and agony of what these galgos live through a mere journey is nothing when what waits them is freedom fro their terrors which haunt them.

Don't get me wrong, rescues run through out Spain and there are many assoc who work tirelessly, these teams of people "the guardian angels I call them" are the first kind hand a galgo in Spain feels, they rescue repair and re-home. Its a massive operation worldwide between teams of people who their sole purpose is a better life for the galgos they have saved. It is here - that steps in the assoc abroad. Without them it would be so much harder to home these dogs. The European assoc. and GRIN in America. www.galgorescue.org

My Thanks and deepest of gratitude for all the hard work everyone does where galgos are concerned, the assoc. here for the pain they see everyday and never ever giving up or turning away, and the assoc abroad for their commitment in taking them to their countries to a better life.

PLease click the links below to see the latest in the GRIN rescue... its an insight into a little of the work thats involved. Enjoy seeing these galgos and podencos on their first steps to family life. Congratulations to you all... and good luck my 4 pawed friends!

Rescued from the horrors of Spain.

Yor, Brenda, Adonis and Sara were brought out of Spain by Amigos de los Galgos and are now being fostered by volunteer Joanna Simm in the Aude, southern France
If you can offer them forever homes, please get in touch with Joanna, who can explain what to do.

I am fostering Colate. He is a magnificent chocolate- coloured galgo, with amber eyes. He thought he had found his forever family, but has come back to me because their home situation changed.
He was brought out of Spain by L'Europe des Levriers as a pitifully thin dog, covered in scars. After 4 months of feeding up, he is now extremely handsome. His scars have covered and his coat gleams.
He's about four years old, extremely affectionate and loving - considering the background he probably came from - and gets on with all my other dogs, including my lurcher, who is the Alpha dog.
Colate is not an aggressive dog - in fact he's pretty typical of the galgo breed - loves long walks, curling up at my feet or in front of the woodburner, car rides, and playing ball.
Take a look at this Fantastic video of Joannas dogs, ENJOY and if you can love one, PLEASE do let her know... they are waiting....

OTRO HISTORIA DE RESCATE! Another Rescue story!

Muchisimas gracias

And they just keep on coming...

This is a story of a mommy galga and her babies. Dumped in a cave and the entrance covered over .. death calling them all, all of them together. Without help they would have starved, frozen , and suffocated for sure. Time runs against the animals on the street in the winter, the days long the nights even longer!

Without the rescue of a local vet in Toledo death would not have been far away.

This vet was told of the case and went to their aid as fast as she could, took them all in, mama and babies. All the babies have been adopted bart one which "came back" but the mommy is still in need of warmth and care and true love, something she will never have had that is for sure. Can you offer a galga a home of love, affection, and free from pain? If you can please contact the email above.

Here's to the galgo loving public, its not too much to ask to have a heart and not harm a defenceless animal is it? But it appears in Spain there are people who dont think like that!

I ask myself every single day, when is it going to end? The Spanish Government has blood on its hands and has a lot to answer for. Shame on you Zapatero for not having a heart..

Accepted shame! Lastima acceptado!

A friend passed to me today the following link.. it is one thing knowing Spain is fanous for treating their animals as show creatures for nothing more than their fun, but this... the poor lost Donkey braying in confusion, this I just cannot comprehend!

Drunken people men, woman and children following a donkey round the streets of a town, the poor donkey unable to even walk forward, pulled from his tail, pushed from behind. Dont people here think about the pain and fear they distill in animals.

I ask you if in other countries the things that children witness here, if they would not be classed under "child abuse" the scenes of what is to us ABUSE is the NORM for these people, but these activities that children see here, the "matanza" the "hunting hares with galgos and the beatings they get" the "bulls" must effect their lives, must have an impact in their lives. Why is it here, just accepted and called a tradition?

I remember when I as 11 I saw this, and wrote to officials in Spain about it. Over the last few years we have heard nothing - so people will think this "tradition has stopped" It has not.. at this event, there were the Guardia civil and a Vet! Is Veterinary Science here a money making scheme, or dont some care for the price of a few beers and laughs with their friends.. the donkey is ok, the vet there "if" it gets hurt! Why wait for that? Does action only take place when physical damage is done here? And then itd be the donkeys fault!
If you look closely the donkey is lame on the left hind, as it comes dragged from the lorry. He wandered 3 hours with drunks on his back.. one, two three...
How can animal torture and disgrace be humerous to some? What kind of people are they?

Take a moment, re-think and put pen to paper - the donkey has no voice, but you do! All of us together we count!

A Special thanks and a Special journey to a new life!

SO here we have another set of pooches making their way to safety and a new life! Its a great feeling to know there is a large network of people out there doing all they can, moving mountains in order to help the associations of Spain and offer the chance of a new life to a galgo and their friends used in the terrible activity of hunting hares in Spain.

It gives you a warm fuzzy feeling to know that all the assoc. look on these special cases as their babies, as you can see from Abby's email she could not sleep until she knew they were safely on board the plane heading for American shores.

It says a lot when galgos have to be sent out of Spain as far a field as America, France Germany and many other countries in search of a new life. Here's hoping we get a law passed and pressure on the government who are too busy with their eyes closed to care what is really happening.

My congratulations go to a massive well organised transfer and as ever to G.R.I.N. who endeavour to always put the galgos first. http://www.galgorescue.org/

here's Abby's letter in her words! (with, of course a few pics!!)

Good Morning!!!
I just wanted to let everyone know that ALL the doggies are on the plane and will soon be headed for the US. It's 2am here - I couldn't sleep until I got the phone call that all went well at the airport... I just got off the phone with Jen and both she and Crystal had no trouble getting checked in thanks to our WONDERFUL friends at Delta - a big hug for Marisa, Alba and Tiziana!!!

Elena, our hero and awesome dog transporter delivered Noa, Carlitos and Inocente to Crystal and Laura at the Madrid airport (there is no way to thank you enough, Elena!!). Aventura from Scooby made the trip in the van just fine with the girls. The two podenco puppies from Virginie and Fermin are together in a crate and doing just fine.

There is no way to adequately thank each of you for all you have done to make this possible. Maria Jose and Fermin from Scooby, Maria Jose from Kimba, Cristina from Amigos De Milord, Isabel from Protectora Caceres, Virginie Labat from Passion Levriers, Elena, Michael Rodrigue - none of this would be possible if not for your undying dedication to the animals of Spain. God bless you for the amazing efforts you each make every day to give these sweet souls a chance at a loving life. Everytime I am able to be a part of bringing one of these incredibly special dogs to the US I feel a renewed sense of hope. Thank you for trusting me and the other amazingly dedicated members of GRIN to care for these special dogs, and please know that each and every one of them is very special to all of us.

The members of GRIN also wish to thank Crystal, Laura, Jen and the folks of Operation Scooby for all the incredible work they have done to help the animals of Scooby.

Please forgive me if I failed to mention anyone - everyone involved deserves a very special thank you!

RODEO CRUELTY! Shame on you - cowboys gone mad!

I offer you here the chance to see Rodeo in Action... behind the scenes of Americas better loved "so called sport" coupling alongside the galgo hunt in Spain.. and excused as a sport, noone asked the other party if they wanted to participate.. The truths are unbearable, the duress and shame these animals feel WHY - all in aid of money. Trapped in a circle like Gladiator times, like the Toros in Spain.. animals for mans fun.. a money making game where the animals pay the price.. see for yourself... pictures may hurt your sensibility.

Forget the myth of rodeos as all-American sport. Rodeos are cruel and deadlyfor animals <http://www.thecrueltruth.com/>, corruptthrough<http://www.shameoncheyenne.com/>andthrough <http://www.illinoiscorruption.com/>, and the crimes of rodeopeople<http://www.cowboycriminals.com/>go far beyond animals, withhorrific and despicable behavior that shocks thesenses of decent people. *These are strong words, but we back them up withundeniable and irrefutable documentation.***

A Hot and Spicy night, ... one of GREAT thanks!

With the plea in full force for help for Ciudad Animal, I contacted Beryl at www.galgonews.com who then sent the plea round France... from there a special night was created by Joanna Simm, another galgo supporter - A Curry night to remember!

She raised a massive 1,466 Euros which has been divided between Ciudad Animal and another assoc in need.

My most special thanks go to you Joanna, for hearing the plea and for acting on it. Its an amazing amount of money to have achieved and I congratulate you and thankyou with all my heart.

My other thanks go to David Lynda Archie and Molly, who have previously donated a whopping 40 coats specially sent from the Uk for the galgos of Spain to help keep the cold nights at bay, and again for another recent monetary donation of 100 Euros for Ciudad Animal. AMAZING! Again, both Ambo and I would like to thank you all, for your true kindness in helping the associations to help the galgos of Spain.

RESPONDED A Marisa

COMING BACK FROM THE A-92 AT THE TOP OF ALCALA DE GUADAIRA I FOUND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MOTORWAY THIS LITTLE DOG. LINDA.. Here's her story.

Introducing LINDA ...

A few days ago Kimba took charge of a poor Pointer who, as you can see in the photos, was a walking skeleton, malnourished, abused, incapable of moving, and the list goes on.

We immediately took her to our veterinarian who had to operate on her urgently. We found out that in addittion to the long list of other problems, Linda had also been pregant, and in giving birth she had complications, and some of her puppies died inside of her uterus and they rotted inside of her, so the bones of her unborn offsprings had to be removed from her
.
It has been very difficult trying to help her recover. Our financial situation is like that of any other animal protectorate in Spain, we are faced with surgical interventions, blood analyses and treatments. But her fortitude will help her to recover, though it will be a problem for her owner.

This poor little hunting dog has suffered the unsufferable. These are the breeds who suffer the most in Spain; they are neither pets nor companions to anyone. They are merely tools to be used in Jaén and discarded in Cádiz. But her lord and master has had the misfortune that his tool has an identification chip, and there has been no report filed of her being lost of stolen.

Hence, her miserable owner has had a denouncement filed against him, and we are hoping that articles 632.2 and 337 of the penal code, which both the prosecutor's office as well as the government news office boast about to those of us in animal rescue, trying to tell us that the animals in Spain are protected. Let's hope that we don't have similar situation to a previous one from Courtroom number 3 in Chiclana de la Frontera (Cádiz) where the owners of two abandoned and microchip identified dogs (who had posed to threat to highway safety) were fined 60 euros. And on top of that the judge asked us why we had picked the dogs up off of the roadway.
Of course that day these articles were not mentioned in the courtroom, and both the animals and ourselves were completely humiliated.

So we don't believe the words that the administration repeat time and time again. We will publish the outcome of this denouncement and, if we have to, we will do so in the languages of every civilised country. Linda does not have a voice, but we have thousands of voices, both in Spain and abroad, and we will not give up until we have shamed those who derserve it, and see to it that justice is done for this poor little long-suffering dog.

Linda in a wonderful foster home recovering from all of the abuse and from her operation.

Introducing Paloma!

A recent case presented to me .. I have placed here for you all to read. This is Paloma and her story...

A galgos life!

I would like to introduce you to Paloma, she was run over on the 28th January! Just another case of the thousands seen daily by those who work the galgo plight. Paloma, seen there lying on the floor. Named Paloma for her white coat, like a dove fallen from the sky with broken wings. Her story is as follows.Paloma is another victim fallen from the hands of a hunter. She has been wandering the streets of a local town for round about a year now, begging for food wherever she can.Poor poor Paloma, as though having been neglected from the hands of a hunter wasnt enough, to being abandoned, to progressing into a punch and torture bag for local Gypsies to take either their frustrations out on, or enjoy the bouts of torture they put her through. On more than one occasion they entered the town for their night time games, - a local lady hearing Palomas screams at night, went out giving the group of monstors a piece of her mind seeing the remians of a lost soul, lying there no strength to fight anymore. In agony and terrorised. Paloma, lost her wings to fly... like a fallen dove from the sky. Where is the law that could protect Paloma from that, why is there so much passiveness? Still, Paloma was not taken in, she was fed by locals but noone wants a galgo, noone wants to be seen from a small time town offering a galgo a home as a pet.. so she stayed in pain, in the cold, albeit a little less hungry than she was before. Oh Paloma, as if that was not all. Life on the street is hard, and when you are already hurt, its harder still.. in the cold and feeling rejected like vermin.. and then a lorry comes round the corner, and bam Paloma again, lost her wings to fly. Still with her strong will to live she continues this new life of the locals feeding her, its more than she has ever had before. After so much, and open wounds, sickness takes hold of Paloma, and "finally" a friend of mine was called to see if she can help. Along time coming, and help that could have been offered before had people called earlier. Its just people are so used to seeing galgos on the street, they are nothing more than beggars to town folk, a nuisance that could bite, could be ill. So very misunderstood! Iv'e seen it all before. Paloma did not want to be caught, but after some hard work between the lady who called in her abandonment, her son, and my friend they managed to put Paloma into the back of the car and rush her to the vet. The wound she has is massive and a was a danger to her. She began to hemorrage, and under full anesathetic began to see the broken veins and how profound her wounds were that she had been carrying round with her, the pain as much as the ache in her heart. She is recovering now, albeit the vet has said it will take a month before the wounds are closed fully. I have no doubt in my mind, it will take a lot longer than that to heal her broken heart! Are you the person who can help her achieve happiness and know real love, feel the warmth of a caring hand and a full stomach? Paloma is not in the care of an association, she is in the vets, and under care of a friend of mine who helps the galgos when she can.. this is what we all try to do. Her care is expensive, her recouperation timely, but galgos have an inner strength and a forgivness that overwhelmes me in amazement. Sincere to the end! If you can help Paloma find her forever home, or offer any help at all for her veterinary care, please contact Alejandra at info@hasiandasha.com or myself comdelrio@hotmail.com Paloma is no different than any other galgo in Spain. The numbers of cases are astranomical, as the hunting season closed this weekend I am inundated with emails about galgos in need. The associations stretched to their limits. With this in mind I would like to introduce you to CIUDAD ANIMAL. In Ciudad Real. www.ciudadanimal.org An association in one of the worst punished areas of disrespect and disreguard for animal life. Lidia her boyfriend Loli and her husband, take care of 135 animals. You may ask, how can such few people take care of so many, they ask themselves the same question? There is one helper a 75 year old man. The area is a dangerous area for galgos in respect to theft. A little while ago I was talking with Lidia and she had re-homed her last galgo into another country. Now such a short time after, less than a month, she has 35. She has 10 at home, and she quite frequently mentions that the other dogs, enter into the shelter and never leave. Noone there wants to adopt. They have such little help, and those that do - pay 5 euros a month. Hands on deck so to speak, are -well themselves. The 4 of them clean, cure, rescue, take dogs to the border, whatever is necessary. Since the other day she has informed me she has several baby galgos of 2 months old found crossing the road, another dropped of by a friend and a couple little tiny breed of dogs thrown in a bin bag in the bin, all now adding to her 135. Her food supplier has dropped out as they have a debt of 1200 and they want that paid, vets bills incurred some 7,000 and the dogs just all need treating. You can bet that every single galgo that enters through Ciudad animal, as any other assoc. comes in with wounds so profound that there are no alternatives but for veterinary assistance. many vets collaborating as best they can, charging only medical supplies. Some, however not so giving! Ciudad animal is no different from any other association, they all pretty much run like this, in debt. The amount of dogs/galgos that need care is exceeding any help they receive. However Ciudad Animal, is a quiet association, with little help. Hence bringing them to your attention. Saving lives costs money, and the local council in their case has pulled out of their measley offering of 6.000 euros a year economic help, because they have rescued dogs bordering the next towns. Unbelieveable! This is a tough passion which breaks hearts, and yet we are all animal lovers. To those who hurt the helpless, the defenceless, and you get away with it ... well they are not people they are MONSTORS! Everyday I try my hardest to create more publicity for the galgos of Spain, looking abroad for help. Working the cause in the hope for a lucky break. trying to find ways to publish here to re-educate and let people know this is real, it happens in its thousands. Helping to find new homes for the galgos, looking in any way I can to help the associations. AlWAYS working towards the day when we get Government attention. Passing a law so these poor souls can have rights, a right to live in peace and be respected. Pushing the government to start a campaign nationally on animal welfare, if they don't know how to do this, we are in our plenty and can show them. Until then, the people who can make this happen, should feel ashamed we are in 2008, and we are rescuing animals in conditions such as Noel, Reina, Paloma, and the hundreds of thousands more that are filling the associations, and the rest dying by the roadside or in wells, left hanging from trees, or the wall they have been chained to all their life and noone has been bothered that the galgo has rotted to death. Having been used all hunt season, to meet a death as this.. payment for loyalty - this the norm! I wish to ask you - PLEASE dont close your eyes. I know its hard, I know that its hard to believe it happens, to painful to even want to know it happens. Its easy to think I am one, I cant do anything, I wish to tell you differently, your signiture on peticions count, your voice can be heard, the one dog you may offer a foster home to can be saved, re-homed, offered love.. the coats you sew keep them warm, the bandage you put in the mail helped in the 5th dressing of the day of a galgos wounded leg.. your conversation about this letter with your neighbour helps, they may tell someone who doesnt know... IT ALL HELPS! As ever I dedicate my letters to all the associations, to you all who take the time to hear my plea and what is becoming my desperate cry for help - to help the galgos. To Inland Trader for the continued support in the galgo plight, without whom I cannot reach you all! Above all, I dedicate all I do to the galgos themselves, those saved and those awaiting the kind hand of courage to come in and rescue them. For me, well I will continue to try to do my best for every galgo who crosses my path, and look towards one day having my own kennels and a place of sanctuary for the galgos in this area of Spain. One day! In the meantime, I hope to reach everyone with the galgos plight, touch all your hearts and see the day when we achieve the so needed law, all of us together. Man's best friend being let down by man! We can make a differance, all of us together. Please contact me for many ways in which we can help the galgos. " May you the galgo rise back up in society and become the household pet, you so deserve to be!"
A galgo friend!
Carlota and Ambo Ambasadog.

La he llamado Paloma.
Poco he podido hacer.
Gracias
